Choose for the best topic that has a broad exposure and also, that wasn't already covered by other established bloggers. For example, if you manufacture, you design, or you create handicraft, you can then sell these physical products through a website. So you can setup a shopping or eCommerce website and you can put all your items online and when people come to your website, they can just payment. After you receive the payment, you can send them the product9s) that they have ordered. The disadvantages of selling physical products are that you have created your own products or buy these physical products from somewhere else before you can ship it to your customers.
- Selling Digital Products: What I mean by digital product are products like eBooks, online videos, audios or software. These are products that are not tangible. When people purchase it, they will receive link to download. So you don’t need to package and ship them out to your customers address. The advantage of this business model is that you do not need to create a physical product and ship them out to people who ordered for them. This business has low maintenance as compared to selling physical products.
- Selling Services Online: There is a website called Fiverr.com where you can find a lot of people offering their services to you for a small fee. For certain services, only $5 will do. (2) Some Money to Subscribe Internet: I overhead some guys ask me how to make money online without any investment. I don’t think this is possible. You will need some money to subscribe your modem to get access to internet. Anybody that want to make money online should be online most of the time.
(3) A Work Plan: With the above two things in place, you are ready to start an online business. You need to create a miniature business plan. What type of online business do you want to do? What will you achieve if you do it? What do you need to do to achieve your aim?
(4) Bank Account: You need a bank account that you will use to receive the money.
(5) Payoneer Accounts: This is needed if you like to do business that don’t pay directly to your bank account here in Nigeria. Most affiliate and freelance websites in the US that accept Nigerians pay with Payoneer.
(6) Patient: This is needed as a prerequisite to make money online. Just like any other business, you have to wait for the business to grow before you start to harvest. One advantage of Online business is that once the money come, it will continue to come unless you relent your effort.
(7) Honesty and Open Mindedness: You have to be as transparent as possible to succeed in any online business. If you mistakenly or purposely scam somebody, just one bad review or comment about you is enough to tarnish your image online and everybody will be afraid of you if you are not even arrested.
(8) Focus: One big mistake most people make is lack of focus when they start online business. They will create as many websites or blogs thinking that the more they create, the more they will make money. It’s advisable that you should take your time to research on your niche. The choose a very profitable niche and stick to that until you make money from it. Once you create more that two blog, your efforts will be divided.
(9) Be Unique: Another mistake most people make is to trying to copy another person’s strategy. It’s good to have a mentor. It’s also good to follow a pattern that works but try and be unique in whatever you are doing. Do not involve in copy and paste blogging unless you are ready to do this. If you do that, you will have so many problems, either Google will refuse to index/rank your blog in search engine or refuse to approve your AdSense application.

There are basically three steps to make money online in Nigeria. These are explained below.
(1) Find out What People Need: The hallmark of online income is your ability to provide solutions to people’s problem. So find out what problem people have and how you can provide the solution to them.
(2) Determined what you can do: There are many things you can do online to make money. This will depend on what you are able to find out in step 1 above and what you can really do best. Sometimes, it’s quite easy and fun to make money from what you know and love to do.
(3) Choose and Create an Audience: The next point after (1) and (2) above is to either choose a ready made audience e.g Freelance websites or build your own audience. My best strategy is building my own audience.
The best way to do this is blogging and email marketing. Depending on your blog niche, your blog readers may eventually become your customer or clients. This is simple.
(4) Become Rich Using Internet: having had all this in place, the next thing is to make money. There are three main ways to make money online.
These are:
(a) Provide a Service or sell your product and keep 100% the profit; These could be eBooks, software, apps, contents, videos etc.
(b) Recommend and product of service and enjoy the sales commission; These could be affiliate marketing
(c) Sales an advertising space on your audience: These could be direct space sales or pay per click ads like Google AdSense
(5) maintain your Business: After all this, it’s important that you maintain your business so that you can continue to make money from it.

- Avoid Spending Too Much Money on a Website: I had a friend who had once spent $15,000 to pay someone to create eCommerce website and at the end this person do not have enough money left to market the website. If you have some budget for your online business, most of it should be spent in marketing the website and not creating it.
- Avoid Spending too Much Money on Inventory: Before you start-up a website or launch your online business, avoid spending too much money to buy items or inventory. A smarter way is to sell first and buy later. Consider the model of taking in orders first before you purchase the items. A lot of online stores now are doing well by using this model to business
- Do not Implement marketing Technique Blindly: There are so many marketing tips and techniques around that you can do. You can do YouTube marketing or Facebook marketing but no matter what marketing you do, always track the result and measure the result. This will ensure that you know which the effective channels for your business.
- Not Doing a Proper Research: Always proper research on the ideas before you start an online business. There are different ways to do this. You can use Google Keyword Planner. Type in the keyword to find out if there are people searching for the things you want to sell. So, if there are demands, then you can create your website.

The concept is called the least nurturing process. Before I continue, I will want to remind you that most of the visitor that will come to your website for the first time will not buy things from you.
This is law of eCommerce and you can’t alter this law. So, you will have to accept it. Most people that come to our website will not buy things from us for the first time which is okay.
The problem is, a lot of people nowadays, when they start an online business, they don’t see this and they thought that most people that will come to their website will buy things from them.
This is where the problem lies. The truth is, when people come to your website, they are just visitors and the number one thing is not to make them buy immediately but to convert them to subscribers by giving you their name and email address.
For example, if you run an eCommerce store, you may decide give aware $10 discount voucher to entice your visitors to subscribe to your mailing list. People may subscribe to your mailing list but they may not buy from your website immediately.
After they subscribe to your email list, then you can schedule to send them educational emails, you can send them monthly newsletters, you can send them tips about your products or services. From these educational emails, you will slowly convert your subscribers to customers when the time comes when you have promotion or new products.
You can send it to them and when they see that it’s something that they need and it’s offered at a reduced price, they will buy your product of services. The whole process is called a “conversion funnel”.
Always have a mechanism on your website that can capture names and emails of your visitors in exchange of something useful that you can send to them. This is very important concept that you can understand.
